DFG University Report – Modernization & Migration from Crystal Reports to SSRS SQL Server

The university report informs the leadership of DFG member universities about approved DFG projects at their respective institutions. The report includes graphical overviews of DFG funding, an overview of application participation in programs, and individual presentations of newly approved and ongoing projects – organized by institution.

Previously, the report was created in Crystal Reports 2008 and provided as a PDF. As part of the content and design revision, the report will now be generated automatically based on a report prototype in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) 2012 on MS-SQL. A service provider with high SSRS expertise was sought for the migration and prototype development.

Approach

We developed an SSRS prototype that replicates the existing report logic while modernizing the layout. The solution enables automated PDF generation from MS-SQL without manual Crystal Reports intervention.
